I am the the managing partner at Lane & Lane, LLC working alongside his brother under the family business motto of “doing the right thing” to help protect the rights of those who can’t fight for themselves. 2016 marks my 38th anniversary practicing law, pouring his efforts into catastrophic personal injury and medical malpractice cases, earning numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements for our clients.
Over the course of my professional career, I have served on dozens of Illinois Bar Association committees and boards, and have served as Chair of the Plaintiff's Personal Injury Institute and as a member of the Board of Directors on the International Society of Primerus Law Firms, an organization made up of more than 3,000 attorneys from nearly 50 countries around the world. Lane & Lane, LLC is the only Plaintiffs’ personal injury law firm in Illinois to be included in membership in this prestigious organization.
I also have had the privilege of authoring state legislation, and of teaching other lawyers over the years, instructing them in areas of medical matters and litigation, and trial and strategy. My hope is that more people are being helped every day because my firm and I have been able to help other lawyers become better advocates for their clients. I've been recognized by Martindale-Hubbell as a “Preeminent Attorney” and have received their highest possible ratings for legal ability and integrity every year since they have conducted that survey, and have been named an “Illinois Super Lawyer” every year since that award was begun.
Above and beyond all of my accomplishments during my legal career, the one thing that I am most proud of is my family. I am married, and the father of three adult children. And now, my wife Sally, who is also our office manager, are proud grandparents, too! Our oldest daughter, Jessica, is married, and is the mother of Steve and Sally’s two grandsons. Steve’s son-in-law, Danny Raskin, shares the Lanes’ close-knit family interest, and is one of the managers of an icon of Chicago: Manny’s Delicatessen. Steve and Sally’s son, Danny, is a manager for Big Bowl, a Lettuce Entertain You, a prominent restaurant development company, and their youngest daughter, Kim, is a jfirst grade teacher in Northbrook, Illinois.
In my “spare time,” I try to enjoy life to the fullest! Music is one of my great passions, and I play guitar and sing in a local rock band named “Dunhill,” as well as for our temple’s guitar band. I'm an avid scuba diver since 1974, visiting our world under water all over the world for 42 years! I've always loved animals and nature to the point that Sally often refers to me as “Dr. Doolittle”! I am a big fan and season ticket holder of the Chicago Bears, and love watching the Bulls and White Sox, and these days even the formerly hated Cubs. In my younger days, I played on multiple football and softball leagues, and I owe my 4 knee replacements to that, but still wouldn't tradea minute of it! These days, my athletic pursuits are more limited to mostly fishing and golf when I can escape the rest of life.
I'm a hands-on kind of guy, and I guess one of my hobbies is building and fixing everything possible around our home and office. Whether I'm troubleshooting computer equipment at Lane & Lane, or maintaining my 300 gallon home-built aquarium, I guess I know just enough to get myself out of most trouble at times!
Throughout all of my life experiences, both the joys and the struggles, I have tried to apply everything I've learned toward gaining insight and perspective into the lives of the people I am fighting for every day.
To sum up my perspective on life, I feel that my family has always taught me to do the right things, to fight against and through adversity, and to be giving and tolerant of others. I am grateful to have learned to be happy with what I have. My many clients over the years have shown me over and over again what true adversity and suffering are like, and I have come to know more true heroes through them all.
